CLARITY

Diamond clarity is a quality of diamonds relating to the existence and visual appearance of internal characteristics of a diamond called inclusions, and surface defects called blemishes.

All diamonds sold by Ladylux Diamonds Inc. are graded by the GIA Laboratory.  As such the following is a description of each clarity grade category with a short description of the type of inclusions that are expected to be in each clarity grade along with a brief description of how each grade is determined with a microscope, loupe or the unaided eye when viewed by the consumer.

FL

Flawless

No internal or external visible inclusions with ten power magnification.

Externally free of blemishes, extra facets, naturals, surface graining and polish lines with ten power magnification. An existing natural or a laser inscription must be confined to the girdle without touching/penetrating the crown or pavilion. This is an extremely rare clarity grade. A diamond with this grade must have a polish grade of excellent.

IF

Internally Flawless

No internal or external visible inclusions with ten power magnification.

Blemishes as described by GIA can be present.
Examples-Extra facets, naturals, surface graining, scratches, polish lines, abrasions, pits and nicks.
Internally Flawless grades can be given to any diamond regardless of color, ultra violet fluorescence, polish, symmetry or cut.

VVS1-VVS2

Very Very Slightly Included

Internal inclusions that are usually only visible through the pavilion side, (bottom). Pinpoints, needles, clouds, wisps, reflective graining, whitish graining and colored graining.

Colored grain lines that are the same as the fancy color are considered as an inclusion. Inclusions can be many as long as they are only visible through the pavilion. Surface inclusions usually confined to the pavilion. Bruise, feather, indented natural or chip.
Usually very tiny. For an inexperienced consumer, is very difficult to see with a loupe or microscope.

VS1-VS2

Very Slightly Included

Internal inclusions are usually characterized as.
Small crystals, clouds, feathers or needles.
VS1 Usually limited to one to three of any combination, VS2 usually with four or more.

Surface reaching inclusions are usually characterized as. Small feathers, bruises, indented naturals, chips, knots or cavities. Usually limited to one to three of any combination, VS2 usually with medium size inclusions.

VS2 Often only white in color and limited reflections. VS2 can have small black crystals with numerous reflections.

For an inexperienced consumer, inclusions can be viewed with a loupe or microscope when the diamond is free of smudges, fingerprints, lint or any other foreign surface material with the help of an experienced gemologist.

SI1-SI2

Slightly Included

SI1:
Medium to slightly large sized crystals, that is white or black. Medium to slightly large sized feathers, that can be slightly transparent. Slightly hazy diamonds due to clouds or whitish graining.
Slightly large cavities, chips or indented naturals.
Numerous VS2 sized inclusions with reflections.
For an inexperienced consumer, inclusions can be viewed with a loupe or microscope without difficulty when instructed by an experienced gemologist.
Clarity type is highly varied from best to worst.

SI2:
Large internal or surface reaching inclusions.
Diamonds often look very busy with numerous inclusions throughout diamond. Can consist of one large inclusion. Considered to be the cut-off for eye-visibility.

For an inexperienced consumer, inclusions can be easily viewed with a loupe or microscope and with the help of an experienced gemologist, may be able to position the diamond so that some inclusions are slightly eye visible.

I1

Included

Eye visible grade setting inclusions.
Very large internal or surface reaching inclusions.
Often black crystals.
Large, deep or dangerous feathers.
